Colour is used with restraint. Grounded neutrals form the base, while a single accent tone draws attention to calls-to-action. Dark themes use soft contrast instead of pure black, keeping interfaces easy on the eyes.

Depth and Motion

Flat design has evolved into something more tactile. Soft shadows, gentle layering, and subtle texture give sites warmth without clutter. Motion is applied sparingly, with hover effects and button feedback guiding the user without slowing them down.

The best interactions are quick, under 250 milliseconds, and respectful of preferences for reduced motion. The result is a web that feels alive but never overwhelming.

Authenticity and Performance

Brands are moving away from staged stock imagery in favour of authentic photography. Real people, real settings, and natural light build trust and make sites feel more personal.

Equally important is speed. Performance is now considered a design choice as much as a technical one. Sites that use lightweight components, modern image formats, and CSS Grid layouts look good, load quickly, and reduce environmental impact.
